Growing up in South Louisiana means living with constant reminders of the strong catholic faith and community here.
I am very lucky to be a product of the Acadians who were deported from their homes in 1755. These ancestors lost everything, and yet never lost their faith in God and their Catholic Church. My parents and grandparents lived their faith.
I have been married for over 30 years, have three grown children and seven grandchildren.
I began this blog in 2013 as a commitment to the call to evangelize by sharing stories of my life in “Catholic Cajun Country”.
My husband, Ken, and I are members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milton, Louisiana. We are committed to the Catholic Church teaching and spreading the pro-life message.
Life is always good. Life is a gift from God. We are all called to love and cherish this gift.

Sherry, I don’t know you but like you my parents both knew French before English. They went to school to learn English. I grew up in the Mamou area. We were never taught to speak Cajun French. My grandparents were all bi-lingual with the exception of one grandfather. He spoke French and Italian along with my grandmother. I live in Houston now and no one here understands the Cajun culture and how cherished it is to all who know it. I value the traditions and the culture but I cannot say that I would go “home” to raise my children. I did not live a sheltered life but so many did and still do. We traveled and explored the country. There is something to be said for the “simple” life and teachings. I have such fond memories. Thank you for your stories.
