What the world needs now…

1 world

We all know the song lyrics written by Hal David and made famous by Jackie DeShannon in April 1965, during the height of the Vietnam War.  I was comfortable in my mother’s womb in April of 1965.  I had no knowledge of what was going on in my country.  I was safe and secure.  I was not yet born, but I was loved.

It is a much different world today.  Some things remain the same such as war, hate, racism, and poverty.  Some things have changed such as the safety and security of an unborn child and the protection of religious beliefs.  Where is the love?

In 1965 the people were singing and longing for love.  The song is addressed to the Lord, asking for love, sweet love.  But did  people know what is love?

1 John 4:8 – 5:3: “Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love…God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him…We love because He first loved us….If anyone says, “I love God”, but hates his brother, he is a liar; for whoever does not love a brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. This is the commandment we have from Him; whomever loves God must also love his brother. .For the love of God is this, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome, for whoever is begotten by God conquers the world. And the victory that conquers the world is our faith.”

Wanting more love in the world, means wanting and needing God.

Today’s man loves many things that have become a false god.

Money and fame have taken up much of man’s heart.  Many people have given into temptations and have committed immoral acts all the while making excuses to themselves that it is for their own well being.  If a man gains everything and loses his soul; what is gained?  Far too much time is spent on gathering wealth and working and planning for a financially secure future rather than spending time with our Lord; working and planning on our eternity.

The biggest false god today is the love of self.  We live in a “do it if it makes you happy” time.  The world would have us believe that there is no such thing as sin.  The world tells us that we all have the right to be happy and live the life we choose.  The world falsely tells us that there are no victims when people act according to desires.  For those who chose abortion,  the victims are in the millions.  For those who choose to manipulate their bodies in an effort to change genders, family members are left confused and grieving.  Individual choices always affect others; God planned it so.

Following God’s commandments is what brings about peace and love.  We sin when we do not follow His commands.  Sin leads to hate, war, and division.  Do not be fooled.  As Mother Angelica so aptly said once, “If there is no sin, then God is a liar.”.  Sin is real and is running rampant today.

So, I propose a new version of Hal David’s song.  I propose we sing, “What the world needs now is God, sweet God’!  A world with God leads to a world of love.  A world of love is a world of self-sacrifice and thinking of others, not ourselves.

I have a little niece who is comfortable and snug inside of her mother’s womb.  She is safe and secure because she is loved.  My wish for her is to live in a world that knows and follows the Lord.  I wish for her to know Love.

C’est Bon,

Love,

Sherry
